Top Ten Tuesday- Top Ten Series I’ve Been Meaning To Start But Haven’t

TopTen Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun meme that was created over at The Broke and the Bookish! This weeks topic is about series that I have yet to start reading! Ah there are so many of these! I find that I am more drawn to standalones- series are just such a commitment!

  1. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams– I mentioned this in another TTT, but I have really been in to SciFi recently and I know that this series is a must-read! I hope to get to it soon!
  2. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas– Everyone has read and is talking about this series! I have heard a lot of mixed things and I have been debating whether or not to try in for myself.  I think I will probably read the first book eventually just to see what I think!
  3. Infernal Devices by Cassandra Claire– I have read the first four books in TMI and I didn’t love them.  A lot of people seem to adore Cassandra Claire, so I do want to give her other series a chance!
  4. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon– I love historical fiction, so I know I will like this series, but the size of the books intimidates me!
  5. Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson– I have not read anything by Brandon Sanderson and I am ashamed! I know this is a lot of peoples favourite fantasy series and I need to get to it!opkho.jpg
  6. The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff- I am reading the first two books in this series this summer! I have heard nothing but good things and they are SciFi!
  7. The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss–  I own the first book, and once again I am intimidated by the size of it, but it sounds epic!
  8. Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab– This series sounds so amazing, and I have been seeing it everywhere lately!
  9. Legend by Marie Lu– I have not read anything by Marie Lu.  Her new series Warcross really intrigues me, so while I wait for that to come out I would love to check out other books by her!
  10. Penryn & the End of Days by Susan Ee– I was looking for a well written book about angels and had this book recommended to me! This series has amazing reviews and I can not wait to get my hands on it!

Have you read any of this series? Which ones do I need to read asap?

  1. I have Mistborn and The Illumine Files on my TBR, too! I read Illuminae early January but haven’t read Gemina yet. It’s a really unique book with a phenomenal format! I had never read anything like that before. Hope you’ll like it, too!

  2. I have so many thoughts.

    1. The Infernal Devices series is my favorite thing ever. I actually read them before The Mortal Instruments series, because I found City of Bones so hard to get through. I personally enjoyed reading them more. I think the characters are easier to like and root for. Definitely give them a shot, before writing off Cassandra Clare.

    2. I literally just finished the first book in the Mistborn series! HOLY HELL! It was so fantastic and I definitely recommend reading it.

    3. Illuminae is also excellent btw and I hope it fulfills all of your sci fi needs.

    4. The Outlander series and Shades of Magic series are ones I’ve been meaning to read too. I definitely agree that the size of the Outlander books are definitely intimidating! Definitely part of the reason i have yet to pick them up seriously yet.

    1. I have heard that TDI is better than TMI! I want to what all the hype about Wil Herondale is about!

Mistborn and Illuminae are at the top of my list for sure!!

I might just end up watching the show instead of reading Outlander. Is that bad? 😋

      1. Will Herondale is definitely where it’s at and so much a better male lead than Jace. Jem is also pretty cool and my favorite.

No it’s not bad! I am sort of doing that with Game of Thrones, because that’s a book series I know I probably won’t enjoy reading.

  3. Illuminae!!! Such a great series! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t read Mistborn. I was starting to feel like I was the last person on earth who hasn’t read them!

  4. I’ve had Illuminae and Mistborn on my shelf foreeever, but I just haven’t felt like the time was right to read them yet because I’m such a mood reader, but I those are two I need to get to one day soon!! But I have read Shades of Magic and 100% recommend.

  5. Outlander is on my list today as well. I read the first book a LONG time ago and never continued with the series for some reason. I need to. I’m in the middle of Mistborn and I love it, even though it’s not the kind of thing I typically read. Sanderson is a master at world-building.

    Happy TTT!

  6. I’ve heard the same things about The Infernal Devices and I always planned on reading them, but then the last book in TMI gave some major spoilers for TID so it kind of took away any desire I had to read them.

  7. I’ve read a lot of stuff on your list omg omg omg let me just rave about them haha
    1. TID is the best thing ever I will do anything for the characters here.
    2. ACOTAR doesn’t really justify the whole series. It’s mostly just surface level stuff there, though it does show how unbelievably bad ass and how much of an amazing character Feyre is. Try reading till the second book maybe and then decide? haha.
    3. Illuminae just BLEW MY MIND! I hope you love it as much as I did!
    4. Legend is amazing, just amazing. The Young Elites is too! Both series had me crying so hard by the time I finished them.
I’m gonna be reading Shades of Magic probably by the end of the month. Hope it lives up to its hype 🙂

    1. You’re awesome! Thank you!!! 😊

I am definitely going to read TID, Illuminae, and Legend soon! This makes me even more excited about them! I’m so torn on ACOTAR!

I forgot about The Young Elites! I want to read that series as well!

I am excited to see your opinion on Shade of Magic!

  8. We do share several of the same series! I’ve read the first Mistborn and it is quite good but equally as looooooong. And I’ve read the first of the Penryn (#10) series and it was surprisingly decent! And I’m reading Illuminae right now and it quite a book!

  9. I can definitely very highly recommend Cassandra Clare’s The Infernal Devices trilogy! I am currently reading it for the third time and still enjoying it very much! She’s also gotten a lot better as a writer as time went on and if/when you decide to finish TMI and TID, I definitely recommend you read her newest series too! That one is definitely the best one so far in a lot of ways (though it still hasn’t been able to take away TID’s spot as my favorite Cassie trilogy!)!

As far as ACOTAR goes, I’m really conflicting with it, to be honest! I LOVED the second book so, so much and then the third one was a bit of a disappointment but still better than the first one. But other have also really, really loved the third book so it really just depends on the reader, I think! You should give it a go – but don’t stop after ACOTAR. Read the second book too!

I feel like Brandon Sanderson and Patrick Rothfuss are a bit of a ‘must read’ in the book community so I have them on my ‘maybe someday’ list too!

    1. A big motivation for wanting to read TID is I’m really interesting in reading Lady Midnight! I somehow own the last two books in the TID series but not the first! Once I get my hands on it I’m going to binge read the series.

I think I am going to give ACOTAR a chance! Everyone raves about the second book!

I want to read Name in the Wind this summer so I will let you know what I think!

I really appreciated this comment! Thanks!!

  10. So many books that I highly recommend! Before getting into that, can I just say how much I love your blog? Your posts are so versatile!
Now, you HAVE to read the ACOTAR series! Those books are legitimately some of my favorite, though the third disappointed me a little. Ignoring that though – I genuinely, genuinely enjoyed these books and I’m a fairly hard person to impress. I honestly can’t explain this books very well, because it turns into an hour long gush session, haha. I also highly recommend the Legend and Angelfall trilogy. Every book in the series has its strength, and they steadily get better as the series continues.

      1. You must buy ACOTAR! That is legit the only series in my life that I’ve ever recommended so much, haha. And Angelfall is also a big must. The angels in that book (cough, cough, Raffe) are just too amazing. I have a feeling you’ll enjoy the series!
