Decluttering My TBR- Down the TBR Rabbit Hole #1

Down theTBRHole

This idea was started by Lia @ Lost in a Story.  It is a great way to declutter your TBR shelf! My current TBR shelf on goodreads has 262 books (which isn’t so bad!) and I know a lot of those were added years ago! I would love to get that list down to books I am still interested in picking up!

This is how it works:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shiver I do own a copy of this but I just have to be in the mood to read because I know it will be heartbreaking.  I am not sure when that mood will strike me but I hope it will eventually.

Verdict- Keep

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer- I wanted to read this before I saw the movie, but I didn’t end up doing that.  I didn’t love the movie either, so my interest in the book has definitely diminished.

Verdict- Bye

The Virgin Cure by Ami McKay I tried to read this one, I really did, but I just couldn’t get in to it! She is a Canadian author so I wanted to support her, but I think maybe I will look in to her other novels because this one just wasn’t for me!

Verdict- Bye

Lone Wolf by Jodi PicoultThere was a time where I was really in to Jodi Picoult but I am just not anymore.  The premise of this no longer interests me.

Verdict- Bye

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher Now that the TV show has come out, I really need to read this! I feel like I am the only one who hasn’t! It is definitely moving higher up on my TBR shelf.  I need to read it soon!

Verdict- Keep

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen– I have not read a lot of her books, but I know they are great summer reads. This seems to be one of her most popular books so I would like to read it eventually!

Verdict- Keep

Delirium by Lauren Oliver This book was all the rage back in the day and I just never got around to it and now I think I probably never will!

Verdict- Bye

The Female Brain by Louann Brizendine– I studied psychology in university and read The Male Brain by the same author. I enjoyed it but it was nothing groundbreaking.

Verdict– Bye

Entwined by Heather Dixon– I was initially attracted to the cover, and then I saw it was a fairy tale and I was sold! The synopsis is still interesting to me!

Verdict- Keep

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld- Same thing here as what I said about Delirium.  It was a popular book that I just never read and now I do not want to!

Verdict- Bye

I am keeping 4 books on my TBR and saying goodbye to 6! I think that went pretty well!

How many books are on your TBR shelf?

***Since drafting this post I have added 20+ books to my TBR! I have a feeling I will be doing these kinds of posts for a long time!***

  1. I really liked The Virgin Cure..😢 I’m sad that it’s off of your list; but she has a new book coming out in the fall (?) called Witches of New York, maybe that would be more to your liking. If it causes another add to your tbr I’m sorry lol 😬

    1. She is a great writer. I don’t know why I wasn’t in to the story! I’m definitely adding Witches of New York though. Sounds like something I would really like!

  2. Thanks for joining and good luck with going through your tbr! I actually love Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, the book is way better than the movie. It’s been one of my favourite books for years, but I think it’s just one of those books you either love or hate.

    1. Thanks Lia! I think that it is one of those books I might add back on to my TBR eventually but just not motivated to read it right now! I’m glad you hear you love it because I hear such mixed things about it!

  3. I love the Truth About Forever and Entwined! And I wasn’t a fan of Delirium, so I don’t think you’re losing anything by letting it go. Good choices!!

  4. We Need to Talk About Kevin is an excellent book (and an excellent movie as well), so I’m glad you’re keeping it. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is *way* better than the movie. I love that book quite a bit.

  5. I haven’t read 13 Reasons Why, either, and now that the show’s come out, I feel like I really need to get on that haha. And I definitely agree with your decision to let go of Delirium and Uglies. Delirium was well-written but pretty boring, in my opinion. It doesn’t really hold up to the high calibre YA reads nowadays. And even though Uglies has a pretty good concept, I couldn’t go on with the series. All the characters rubbed me the wrong way haha

    1. That’s good to know! I just figured there is so many better YA books out there that I’m not going to waste my time on those series!

  6. Ah yes really good choice on We Need to Talk About Kevin- it’s a great book, but you do need to be in the right mood to read it. And Uglies was a really meh read, so good decision!

  7. Wow you did really well with this declutter! (even if you did add more books to your tbr) I feel like this meme is more about getting rid of somebody our older books you’re likely no longer interested in 😋 I kept We Need to Talk About Kevin on my list too, when it came up on my declutter

    1. Thanks Zuky! It is nice to get rid of books I know I won’t read! I’m excited to eventually have a TBR with just books I am currently interested in!

  8. Hey Kristin, I’m going to do one of these posts. Is it ok if I use your Down the TBR image for mine? Of course I will give you credit!

      1. Thanks so much! I’m working on it now. I’m not sure when I will post it, but it should be this week.
